Mount Maunganui is all set to host the NZ vs BAN third T20I on Sunday, December 31 which is also the decider of the three-match series. The match starts at 5.30 am IST which is 1 pm local time. Bangladesh won the first T20I and the second T20I was rained out.

Only 11 overs of play were possible in the NZ vs BAN second t20I where New Zealand scored 72/2. Tim Seifert scored a quickfire 43 while Daryl Mitchell (18) and Glenn Phillips were still unbeaten at the wicket when the play was called off by the on-field umpires Kim Cotton and Shaun Haig.

The rain started at 8 pm local time with New Zealand well poised at 72/2 in 11 overs. The cut-off time for a five-over match was 10:28 pm local but consistent rains meant that the umpires had to call off the game early. There are predictions of rain in the third T20I as well.

New Zealand will be led by Mitchell Santner. The side is without the likes of Kane Williamson and Kyle Jamieson. Both have been rested from the series with New Zealand lined up to play Test matches against Australia and South Africa next year. The senior players in the side will need to play well to avoid a clean sweep against the Tigers.

Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead Bangladesh in the series. They are without their senior players Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal. Mushfiqur Rahim. and Mahmudullah. Litton Das and Soumya Sarkar are the two most experienced batters in this lineup. However, it is their bowlers who have given the team the upper hand in the last two matches.

Shoriful Islam especially has been taking wickets with the new ball. Bangladesh defeated New Zealand in the third ODI followed by the first T20I. They were well ahead in the second T20I having taken an early wicket but rain played spoilsport.

The two teams have played 19 T20Is with the Kiwis winning 14 and the Tigers just four. The 1st T20I win was their fourth overall against New Zealand and their first T20I win in New Zealand. Now they have a chance to notch up a T20I series win if they beat New Zealand in Mount Maunganui in the third T20I.
