Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has revealed that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is his favorite opposition captain. Shakib made the big revelation while speaking on the ‘What A Show’ YouTube channel. Rohit recently led India to their maiden Test win at the Sahara Park Newlands in Cape Town and became the second Indian captain to level a Test series in South Africa.

Shakib Al Hasan had also praised Rohit Sharma ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup following his rift with Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal. That time, Shakib had stated that Tamim should learn from Rohit on how to play selflessly for the team.

Shakib Al Hasan considers Rohit Sharma as a ‘selfless’ cricketer

Shakib Al Hasan had stated earlier, “Look at someone like Rohit Sharma. He built his career from No. 7 to opener, scored 10,000-plus runs. If he sometimes bats at No 3 or 4, would it be a big problem? It is totally childish. It is my bat, I will play. No one else can play. A player should bat at any position for the team. Team first. It doesn’t make any difference if you have made 100 or 200, and the team loses. What can you do with personal achievement? You want to make a name for yourself?”.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy career for the Indian cricket team has been full of ups and downs. Rohit has been brilliant for India while leading the team in a bilateral series but is yet to win an ICC title for them. Under Rohit, India qualified for the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, the 2023 World Test Championship final, and the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

However, if we compare Rohit Sharma’s captaincy career to Virat Kohli’s, then Kohli has had more success in overseas countries than Rohit. Though, Rohit has led Mumbai Indians to five Indian Premier League titles whereas Virat has won none.

Shakib and Rohit also share a lovely bond off the field. Shakib has also played a lot of matches against Rohit while featuring for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Rohit Sharma is probably in the last phase of his career and might play for the team for the next two to three years. With the T20 World Cup coming this year, it is most likely expected to be played under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya or Suryakumar Yadav.

The tournament might also feature a young Indian cricket team without the likes of big names such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The Indian team will want to bring back the trophy home after 2007 and also win an ICC title after 11 years.

The Indian team will be playing against Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series, however, the squad for the same is yet to be announced. BCCI might rest Rohit, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the series as India would be facing England right after the T20I series against Afghanistan.

India and England would play a five-match Test series which is very important from the perspective of the World Test Championship.
