Devon Conway has been ruled out of the fourth T20I against Pakistan after being tested positive for Covid-19. The penultimate game of the five-match series is scheduled to be played on Friday (January 19) at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed the development a couple of hours before the start of the game. Devon Conway tested positive on Thursday and is currently in isolation at the team hotel in Christchurch. New Zealand have called up Canterbury Kings batsman Chad Bowes as a cover.

“Devon Conway has been ruled out of the fourth T20I against Pakistan after testing positive for COVID. Conway has been in isolation at the team’s Christchurch hotel after testing positive yesterday. Canterbury Kings batsman Chad Bowes will join the squad today as cover,” a statement from the NZC read.

New Zealand will also be without their captain Kane Williamson for the game. The right-handed batsman has been ruled out of the series after suffering a hamstring injury during the second T20I. In his absence, left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner is leading the side.

Devon Conway not the only one:

Devon Conway is not the only member of the New Zealand team to test positive for Covid-19. Apart from him, New Zealand’s newly-appointed bowling coach Andre Adams has tested positive for COVID-19 as well. He is also in isolation at the team hotel. The Black Caps have called up Canterbury Men’s development coach Brendon Donkers to help the team for the fourth game.

“Bowling coach Andre Adams has also tested positive for COVID and will also remain at the team’s hotel. Canterbury Men’s Development Coach Brendon Donkers will join the team for today’s match to help out in Adams’ place,” stated NZC.

Earlier in the series, Santner had to miss the first game after he tested positive for Covid-19 as well. New Zealand have already sealed the series by winning the first four games and will be eyeing another win. They won the first game by 46 runs before winning the second and third games by 21 and 45 runs respectively.
