The PAK vs NZ 5th and final T20I will be played in Christchurch on Sunday. The match starts at 5.30 am IST. New Zealand have won the series by winning the first four games. Pakistan are staring at a potential 5-0 whitewash.

The series so far has been a forgetful one for the visitors. They have excelled in the T20 format in recent times but have been completely outplayed in this series so far. They have been below par with both bat and ball.

Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 90 helped Pakistan post 158/5 in their 50 overs. Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson took two each as the Pakistan batters could not withstand the pace of the Kiwi bowlers. Babar Azam scored 19 while Mohammad Nawaz scored an unbeaten 21.

Riding on Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips’ unbeaten half-centuries, New Zealand recovered from a poor start to thrash Pakistan by 7 wickets in the NZ vs PAK 4th T20I at the Hagley Oval on Friday (January 19). With the win, New Zealand have taken a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.

The fourth T20I loss has big repercussions for the Pakistan Cricket Board. PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf resigned from his post following Pakistan’s fourth consecutive toss. The Test series loss against Australia followed this shambolic loss against the Kiwis forcing Ashraf to vacate his post. This is Ashraf’s second tenure as the chairman of the PCB and his recent tenure is considered to be one of the worst in the history of Pakistan Cricket. He assumed the post on July 7 with Pakistan building up for the World Cup.

However, the team lost seven matches in the tournament followed by shambolic performances against Australia and now New Zealand. A lot changed at PCB under Zaka Ashraf. He first removed Babar Azam as captain across formats expecting better results. He also changed the entire administrative system. However, nothing yielded any positive results.

New Zealand have decided to rest Dary Mitchell heading into the fifth and final PAK vs NZ T20I. Rachin Ravindra has been named as his replacement. The Kiwis are already without Kane Williamson who was ruled out of the last three games due to a hamstring injury. Mitchell Santner has been leading the team in his absence. The series win has allowed the think tank to rest and rotate key players with the T20 World Cup in mind.

In 38 PAK vs NZ T20Is, New Zealand have now won 17 matches while Pakistan are still at 20. Before the start of this series, the Kiwis had just won 13 T20Is against their opponents.
