Glenn Maxwell has been a hot topic in the Australian media recently after the all-rounder was hospitalized following a late-night party with his friends. He suffered a fall in the late-night pub after enjoying too much with his friends and was embarrassed about the whole situation after being hospitalized.

No actions were taken against him as he was not a part of the Australian team when the incident took place. However, coach Andrew McDonald spoke to Glenn Maxwell about the incident and wanted him to be more disciplined.

Glenn Maxwell was not included in the Test series against West Indies and was given a rest from the ODI series to manage his workload after a tiring few months with the Australian side and also the BBL.

This is not the first time when he is facing such a situation. He injured his leg at a party during the T20 World Cup in 2022 but then returned to feature in the IPL and had a great 2023 in terms of white-ball cricket as he played a huge part in Australia’s World Cup winning campaign in 2023.

Andrew McDonald spoke some strong words regarding the situation around Glenn Maxwell and had a long chat with the all-rounder regarding the incident. He said that Maxwell needs to remain disciplined while playing for Australia and said that he was given this free period to rest and rehab and McDonald expects better of Maxwell. Glenn Maxwell was also sore and sorry after the incident but has resumed his training in Melbourne. He will be featuring in the T20I series against West Indies which will commence on February 9.

“I’ve spoken to Glenn, had a good chat with him yesterday around the incident,” McDonald told SEN. “Him looking after himself needs to be a consideration moving forward. We’ve given him the opportunity to rest and rehab in that period of time and I suppose the lessons for him around that would be to take up his end of the bargain in that space and take care of himself,” the Australian coach further added.

Aaron Finch Backs Glenn Maxwell Saying That The Best Of Him Is Coming

Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch backed his Australian teammate and revealed that the all-rounder is in good spirits while speaking at a promotional event in Melbourne. He acknowledged that this was not the appropriate timing for Glenn Maxwell to be in this situation but the tight network he has built around him has helped him a lot.

“He seems in really good spirits. No, this wasn’t ideal timing for him and it was tough on him, but he’s got a tight network around him that helped him out a lot and I think it would have been a good time to reflect on it too,” said Aaron Finch about Maxwell.

Aaron Finch also talked about seeing Glenn Maxwell at his best in the last three to four years and he reasoned his body fitness for his performance.

“I think what we’ve seen over the last probably three years is the best of Glenn Maxwell on the field. And that’s because he’s got his body right. And then obviously the broken leg, that was not ideal. And I think over the next couple of years, we’ll still see the best of him,” Finch further added.

Glenn Maxwell was at his best in 2023 for Australia as he played a key role in the ODI World Cup where he became the first Australian to score a double century in ODI cricket as he scored 201* against Afghanistan while suffering severe cramps. He also smashed his fourth T20I century against India in the T20I series which was followed by the World Cup. He will be returning to play for Australia in the T20I series against West Indies and will look forward to clearing his image with his performance.
