Australia are second in the ICC ODI rankings while the Windies are placed as below as tenth. the current World Champions are playing at home with their senior players rested. David Warner has already announced his retirement from ODI cricket. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are being rested from this series with Steve Smith named captain. So far he has done a good job as captain winning both the games.
Shai Hope is leading the Windies. He has a pretty young side to look after. He has inexperienced players to choose from as well. Hope himself not scoring runs has added to the pressure of the team losing matches and the players underperforming. Kaecy Carty top-scored with 40 in the innings. Roston Chase scored 25. Six batters scored in single digits which was the problem in the chase.
The two teams have played 145 ODIs with the Aussies winning 78 matches while West Indies 61. In 120 AUS vs WI Tests, Australia won 61 Tests and the visitors 33. West Indies have won more T20Is compared to Australia.
West Indies are without key players in their squad. They do not have Jason Holder, Shimton Hetmyer, Andre Russell, and Rovman Powell in their squad. Sunil Narine has not a part of the team for the last five to six years which has hurt the team the most. Hope has to deal with a pretty inexperienced side with not many of them having played ODIs consistently.
West Indies failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup last year which speaks about their current situation with the ODI team. However, they came back strongly to win an ODI series against England.
