West Indies take on Australia in the third and final ODI in Canberra on Tuesday, February 6. The Windies have already lost the series after losing the first two games. They will look to avoid a whitewash.

West Indies have underperformed with bat and ball in the first two games. They lost the first ODI after they scored a below-par 231. In the second, they could not chase 259 to win.

West Indies could not capitalize after getting Australia down to 91/5. Letting them score beyond 250 after getting half the side out below 100 was the first mistake that they made in the second ODI.

In the chase, six batters scored in single digits while the top score in the team was 40. Skipper Shai Hope has underperformed with the bat with scores of 12 and 29 in the first two games.

The overall squad lacks experience. Hope is the only batter who has played over 100 ODIs. Alzarri Joseph is the most experienced bower with 67 games under his belt. It is the overall inexperience that cost the side in the second ODI.

Heading into the final OSI, they are without their senior players like Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer Jason Holder, and Rovan Powell who are currently playing in T20 leagues rather than for the national team.

The debate among the players choosing club over country has been an age-old topic in West Indies cricket and the problem lies in many reasons other than cricket. In this article, we take a look at the likely West Indies XI playing XI for the final ODI against Australia.

Justin Greaves will open the batting. He scored 1 and 8 in the two games. He has played just five ODIs and has a best of 12 and is a makeshift opener. Greaves was part of the recent Test series against Australia. He picked up 3 wickets and hit 68 runs across 2 matches.

Hope should bat at three as he is the best batter in the lineup. He scored 12 and 29 in the two games and has underutilized his skill. He needs to have a big score if the Windies are expected to win the match.

Rostin Chase is another useful batter in the lineup. He plays spin well and should bat at five. He scored 59 in the first ODI and 25 in the second. He is a useful off-spin bowler as well. Chase has played 44 ODIs for West Indies having taken 27 wickets and approaching 800 runs.

Romario Shepherd

Shepherd is a hard-hitting all-rounder. He was dismissed for a duck in the first ODI and scored just six in the second. He went wicketless in the first ODI and took two for 50 in the second. In the previous series against England, Shepherd took five wickets and scored 108 runs in three matches.

Hayden Walsh

Walsh is the specialist leg spinner at number seven. He went wicketless in the first ODI and was dropped in the second. Given that he is a leg spinner he should get the nod ahead of Matthew Forde who is almost a backup seamer.
