Australia’s star batter Glenn Maxwell reminded everyone why he is known as the big show of international cricket as he smacked a fantastic century off 50 balls to equal the record of Rohit Sharma’s tally of most centuries in the shortest format.

One of the moments to savor came during the 2nd ball of the 13th over when Maxwell played his world-famous switch hit to score a six off West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hossein.

Glenn Maxwell was absolutely raging tonight and played out one of his finest knocks in white ball cricket. His bat remained a bit quiet in the 1st T20I at the Blundstone arena in Brisbane as he departed for a score of just 10 runs off 8 deliveries.

His quietness did not cost Australia that much as veteran opener David Warner was in beast mode, amassing 70 runs off just 36 balls at a strike rate of over 190. His knock was complimented by Josh Inglis’ 39 off 25, Tim David’s quickfire 37 off 17, and Matthew Wade’s finishing touch 21 off 14.

That helped the home team set up a target of 213 for the West Indies who were coming on the back of a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series which took place right after the visitors defeated Australia at Gabba to level the 2-match Frank Worell trophy Test series.

In response, Rovman Powell’s side got off to a blistering start, given by openers Brandon King and Johnson Charles. The duo amassed an 89-run partnership before King’s departure for 53 off 37. Then the following batters – Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Shai Hope, Andre Russell, and Sherfane Rutherford all departed cheaply.

Number 10 batter Jason Holder provided some late blows but it was very late by then as Australia claimed the victory by 11 runs with Adam Zampa picking the most number of wickets – 3. David Warner was adjudged the man of the match for his 70-run knock.

And Glenn Maxwell’s blistering knock earlier today set up the stage for Australia to complete another victory to seal the series at the Optus Stadium in Adelaide. After this series, the Aussies will fly over to New Zealand to feature in a 3-match T20I series and a 2-match Test series for their next assignment in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

The series will be kicking off on 21st February with the T20I series which will also be both the team’s final breeding ground to prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies which starts from June 1 onwards.
