India and CSK pacer Shardul Thakur is known for his wicket-taking ability in the middle overs and crucial stages of the innings. Thakur, who is also known by the name of ‘Lord Thakur’, enhanced as a bowler playing under MS Dhoni in IPL.
While Shardul Thakur moved to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023, Thakur has now come back to CSK in the IPL 2024 auction. Shardul will once again want to enhance as a bowler in the next edition of the cash-rich league.
RP Singh opens up on CSK’s best IPL 2024 auction buy
While Chennai Super Kings were able to rope in New Zealand stars Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, former Indians pacer RP Singh believes that Shardul Thakur was the best buy for CSK in the IPL 2024 auction.
Singh stated that CSK were able to add Shardul Thakur at a very good price and he will also give the franchise a batting option lower down the order. Thakur was roped in by CSK for INR 4.00 crore and was released by KKR ahead of the auction.
Speaking on Jio Cinema, RP Singh said, “I feel Shardul Thakur because he is an Indian fast bowler with variations and gives a big option in batting. Considering that, the Chennai Super Kings got him at a very good price. I feel the Chennai Super Kings would have kept a little more money for Shardul.”
“Chennai’s options increased when they bought Shardul at that price. They were able to save money, so they could shop for more players, and they could go after Rizvi for a longer time. According to me, Shardul Thakur was the best buy for Chennai.”
Chennai Super Kings have a pretty strong batting lineup whereas in the bowling department, they have the likes of Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana, and now also Shardul Thakur.
CSK will once again be led by MS Dhoni, who has been the captain of the franchise since the first edition of the tournament. MSD has led the team to five IPL trophies and they are also the most successful IPL team in terms of matches won.
The IPL giants now will want to become the IPL team with the most titles. Currently, CSK have five titles along with Mumbai Indians.
Apart from MS Dhoni, Stephen Fleming has also made a huge contribution to CSK’s success. Fleming has been the coach of the team for a very long time, and the current support staff of the team has played for the franchise previously.
The IPL 2024 will also be a platform for the players who are in contention to make their place in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Players such as Rinku Singh, Sai Sudharsan, and many more are included in the list of such players.
