Australia women cricketer Alyssa Healy, who is the wife of Mitchell Starc, opened up about her husband getting the highest bid in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction. She said that it was an amazing moment and it was justification for the hard work he has put in.
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc shattered all the record in the IPL 2024 auction. He became the highest-paid player in the history of the league after he was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping amount of INR 24.75 crore.
In the auction, first, it was Pat Cummins, who became the most expensive player in the league as he was brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.5 crore. However, within one hour, Mitchell Starc broke his record as he made teams go berserk after him.
Mitchell Starc hasn’t played in the league since 2015 as he put his nation ahead and opted out of the tournament. This time around, he registered and he made sure that he compensated all the money that he lost in the last few years by not registering in the IPL.
Mitchell Starc, who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, was informed by her wife Alyssa Healy about the big bucks that he got in the auction. The Australian women cricketer was asked about her feelings after her husband broke the record.
Alyssa Healy revealed that she was in the gym when Mitchell Starc was brought by KKR. She said that it was an amazing day for Pat Cummins and her husband. She stated (as quoted by TOI):
“It is what it is. It is an amazing moment for Mitch, it is a great justification for the hard work he has put in and (for) probably some of the choices he has made over the last eight years to put his country first.
“I was in the gym. I was not thinking of beers, according to social media. I was actually in the gym working hard, watching it all unfold. But yeah, an amazing day for him and Pat (Cummins).”

Mitchell Starc expressed his delight in getting picked by KKR for the INR 24.75 crore. He said that he was in shock after seeing teams going high for him and he’s thrilled to join Shreyas Iyer-led side. He told Star Sports:
“I’m not sure any words would do it justice, really. Alyssa was over there with the Australian team at the minute, so her coverage was slightly ahead of mine here in Australia. So she sort of saw the numbers before I did, so I was getting the updates through her. But, yeah, a fair bit of shock, and certainly excitement with how it was all unfolding. But nothing that I could’ve ever imagined. Thoroughly thrilled to be joining KKR.
“It’s been a long time since I played in IPL in 2014 and ’15 and have obviously played a fair bit of cricket since then. Hopefully, I can bring to bring to KKR as well and play my part there. And being able to bowl at different stages I think is something that’s held firm throughout.
Mitchell Starc has played 27 games in the IPL and has taken 34 wickets at an economy and average of 7.17 and 20.38. The pacer has the best bowling figures of 4/15 in the league.
