Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan opened up about the future of MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said that the keeper-batter will himself reveal about his future as the skipper doesn’t tell them what he will be doing.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni will be taking the field in the IPL 2024. This potentially might be his last season in the league, considering his age and also the other factors. It was speculated that 2023 will be his last season but he confirmed that he will be playing next year.

MS Dhoni has been an incredible player as well as the skipper in the league. He has guided Chennai Super Kings to the 5 titles in the league and is the joint most successful captain in the league with Rohit Sharma, who has also won 5 titles.

MS Dhoni recently underwent knee surgery and is working hard to get fit for the IPL 2024. It probably will be the one final dance for him in the league but considering his fitness, who knows that he might play a few more seasons.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that he has no clue till when MS Dhoni will play in the league. He revealed that the batter is putting hard yards and will be back in the nets after 10 days. Speaking during an event, he explained (as quoted by Indian Express):

“That I do not know. See, as far as the captain is concerned, he will answer you directly. He does not tell us what he is going to do. He is doing well now. He has started his rehab. He started working in the gym. And, probably in another 10 days, he’ll start working in the nets also.”

Kasi Viswanathan further revealed that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are planning to have a camp in the first week of March. He added that they will be organizing a camp in Chennai. He explained:

“We are planning for a camp somewhere by the first week of March. The IPL season is likely to start by 22nd of March. So, we will have our first camp by the first week in Chennai.”

IPL 2024: I would say we pretty much got all of our targets – Kasi Viswanathan on their auction

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) no doubt had a terrific outing in the IPL 2024 auction. They brought the Kiwi duo of Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra along with Mustafizur Rahman as well. They silently chipped in at the event and ticked almost every box.

Kasi Viswanathan said that they got all the targeted players in the auction and revealed the thought process behind picking Daryl Mitchell and Mustafizur Rahman. He added:

“I would say we pretty much got all of our targets. We were planning for Daryl Mitchell. We thought Mustafizur Rahman would be a good bet at our Chepauk wicket, with the side boundary. These were our thoughts but we were not sure whether we would be able get them. Luckily, it turned out to be a good auction for us this time.”

Apart from the foreign Superstars, CSK also bid for Sameer Rizvi and brought him for the whopping price of INR 8.4 crore. Talking about signing, Kasi Viswanathan said that they got the youngster as a replacement for Ambati Rayudu in the team. He elaborated:

“Sameer Rizvi was a targeted player for many of the franchises. We were probably a bit lucky in getting Rizvi. Basically, if you look at it, we are trying to get a replacement for Ambati Rayudu. According to us, we didn’t have enough players with that kind of experience to bid for any of them. So, we thought it was better to go in for a youngster who has the promise. I’m not saying this just because we have picked him, but he is going to be the next best.”

Chennai Super Kings also brought the likes of Shardul and Avanish Rao Aravelly apart from the above-mentioned names. They surely would be a force to reckon with in the next IPL.
