Brendon McCullum has no regret about losing 3rd IND vs ENG Test

Brendon McCullum said, “We’ll turn the page and go quids in again trying to put India under pressure. Hopefully, in seven or eight days, we’ll be talking about how exciting it is to be heading into a decider.”

England showcased a horrible batting collapse in the second innings of the third IND vs ENG Test match. The three lions lost their last eight wickets in the space of 95 runs and faced a horrible batting collapse. The form of Joe Root also remains a problem for the Ben Stokes-led side. Root was expected to be one of the highest run scorers for England in the ongoing series, however, his form and bad shot selection has become a matter of concern for the side.

Joe Root is mainly known to be an orthodox batsman who tends to play proper cricketing shots, however, as he tries to adapt to England’s ‘bazball’ approach, the Yorkshire batsman ends up playing unorthodox shots, which he is not used to playing and gets out.

While speaking up on Joe Root’s shot selections, Brendon McCullum stated that seeing Joe Root’s new avatar, cricket experts come and go by saying the right-handed batter is not able to do well under the new regime. He also insisted that what we want, is a normal Joe Root or an even better Joe Root, he added that if this happens, how many games will England win?

Brendon McCullum said, “People see a shot like that and go, ‘Joe Root is struggling to deal with this new regime’. His impact on the game is still very, very significant. Imagine if this becomes the norm for Joe as well, with the talent he possesses and the history he’s got. Then what’s the ceiling? Do we want just a normal Joe Root, or do we want an even better Joe Root? How many games are we going to win if that happens.”

The fourth Test match of the series begins at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi next Friday. India have strengthened their place in the World Test Championship 2023-25 standings whereas, they also lead the five-match series by 2-1. The Rohit Sharma-led side will want to win the fourth Test in Ranchi and also win the series.
