Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper David Warner revealed a hilarious anecdote on how he pranked Ricky Ponting during his first away series and then the senior player took revenge on him. He said that after that incident he never did a prank on him
David Waner has been one of the funniest characters both on and off the field. He has often been seen pulling the legs of his teammates as well as the opposition players as well. But once he pranked Ricky Ponting that and the after-effects of that weren’t too great for him.

During Australia’s tour to South Africa in 2010, David Warner and Ricky Ponting had rooms close to each other and the southpaw applied Vaseline on the door handle of his teammate’s room and also jammed the keyhole.
During an interaction on Breakfast with Champions, David Warner revealed how he saw through the peephole that Ricky Ponting couldn’t open the door because of what he did. He narrated:

“It was in South Africa in 2010, my first away series. Ricky Ponting’s room was beside mine and I thought it would be a good idea to put Vaseline on his door handle and I also put vegemite in the keyhole. I could see through my peephole that he wasn’t able to open the door. Someone must have told him it was me.”

David Waner further revealed how Ricky Ponting took revenge on him. He said that when they returned home and after weeks when he saw his shoes, they were filled with salmon and eggs. He said:
“Three weeks later I was back home and I didn’t open my cricket kit. Later when I went to put my shoes on, there was salmon, eggs, etc. I could have gone to jail from the customs trying to clear this all up.
I was like ‘Who could do this?’ and then I thought, Punter. I told him it was disgusting, but he then told me, ‘You want to play a prank on me? I will have the last laugh’. That was the last time ever I pranked on Ricky Ponting.”
Both David Warner and Ricky Ponting share great camaraderie between then. They current are part of the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. While the former is the captain of the team, the latter is the head coach of the franchise.
