Former Australian cricketer and legendary coach Tom Moody has said that the performance of players in the Indian Premier League is very important from the T20 World Cup.

Big names from all over the world come out and play in the IPL due to which they get a platform to express themselves on the world stage. The IPL has groomed and has given many stars to the cricketing world. During the period when the league is held, hardly any international series takes place.

Tom Moody, who is the former head coach of the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, feels that the cash-rich league along with every other cricketing league in the world is important for any player to be performing because every home team will be looking at their performances in these before picking up the squad of the T20 World Cup.

Moody added that if you are scoring runs, taking wickets, and consistent in every aspect, it gives the player an extra edge to get selected for the world events.

Tom Moody explains IPL’s importance for the selection in the T20 World Cup squad

Tom Moody said during a virtual interaction with ILT20 franchise Desert Vipers, as quoted by PTI “The IPL (set to be played between March-May), along with any other T20 tournament, like the ILT20, is important for any player to be performing because every home team is looking at the performances of all their players in these tournaments because of the high-quality cricket in these (leagues).

“If you are scoring runs, taking wickets and showing consistency, it only puts you in a good position as an individual when it comes to those final tough decisions around the selection table. It allows you to continue with that sort of confidence, going into an important (T20) World Cup.”

The T20 World Cup 2024 is all set to start in June in the West Indies and USA. The tournament will start just after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2024. Many big names such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, and many more will be part of the cash-rich league. The Indian Premier League 2024 will start from the last of March and will conclude in the last of May 2024.

Other than the Indian Premier League, many other T20 leagues are going on every time all around the globe wherein many players take part and perform. However, due to the excessive participation of international players in T20 leagues, they miss international commitments for the country.

The Indian Premier League performance will also be a criterion for the Indian cricket team selectors to pick the players for the T20 World Cup 2024. India played their last T20I series ahead of the tournament against Afghanistan in January 2024 and is currently playing against England in a five-match Test series. The players will directly play the IPL after the IND vs ENG Test series.
