Australia’s 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup winning wicket-keeper batsman Josh Inglis was at the forefront of things for the wrong reasons while trying to run out a West Indies batter. Inglis received a decent throw from Travis Head and he could have successfully completed the run out but he instead chose to give us a brain fade moment.

The hilarious moment occurred during the 47th over of the match when Sean Abbott was bowling his 9th over. In the 4th delivery, Abbott bowled a bouncer which was punched away strongly by Gudakesh Motie towards the deep cover area where Travis Head was standing as a sweeper.

The ball was hit so hard that it fumbled from his hand as he tried to stop it from reaching the boundary with a diving effort. The ball struck Travis’ hands and went a few steps ahead of him but he recovered quite well and threw towards the keeping end after noticing that the Walsh and Motie were going for the third run.

Motie had reached the mid part of the pitch at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground and it would have been a routine glove work run out for Josh Inglis on other days but not today. The 28-year-old instead of keeping his calm, decided to rush and attempt a diving run out of Motie but ended up missing the stumps.

He could have easily kept the ball in his hand and touched the stumps but he threw the ball from his right hand as Walsh covered all the ground by then and remained safe at last. The commentators saw the funny side of the incident and cracked with a laugh and the reaction was pretty similar on Josh Inglis’ face as well.

But that missed run-out attempt did not cost Australia that much as West Indies scored just 9 runs after that and posted a target of 232 for the Aussies in the 1st of a 3-match ODI series.

Following Poor Glovework, Josh Inglis Shines With The Bat

Josh Inglis did make amends during Australia’s successful chase of 232 to help the hosts gain a 1-0 lead in the Dettol ODI series. The Yorkshire-born Australian international cricketer came out to open the innings alongside Travis Head and gave the hosts a perfect start.

Inglis played some sensational strokes right away and played a strike rate of 150 throughout the innings. His 65-run knock came in 43 balls and was a rather quickfire one which included 10 fours and a six. He handled Australia’s innings after Travis Head departed in the first over’s 4th delivery for 4 runs by Matthew Forde.

All-rounder Cameron Green who arrived at number 3, stood for a 79-run partnership with Josh Inglis before the latter’s departure. Captain Steve Smith would then stitch a 149-run partnership with Green and remained in the crease until the winning runs were scored.

Green scored 77 off 104 while Steve Smith played out a run-a-ball 79 off 79 with 8 fours and no sixes. The 2nd ODI of the 3-match series takes place on Sunday, February 4th at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
